ah, but have you seen the anne MINI-SERIES! diana barry and gilbert bly were like two of my first crushes. recently friends and i went a little (ok way) over the top and assembled four plates of fancy finger-sandwiches to be accompanied by alcoholic raspberry cordial and knocked ourselves out on all 6 hours of periodpieceindulgence!

I was never an Anne fan (although I do recall reading Emily), but I am a big fan of cake, and I made this one two nights ago. It is delish! I love the way the purple color of the plums permeates the whole top of the cake and the cornmeal gives it a nice taste and texture.

I, too, had a thing for Anne. So much so that in my preteen years (and, um, sometimes beyond) I would sign my letters from "Molly Anne of Green Gables." This makes a tiny bit of sense, as my middle name is actually Anne. But, still. Sigh. The cake looks lovely, too, and I'm happy to know others love L.M. Montgomery as much as me!

Oh those books, and the lovely accompanying movies, so perfectly cast...they were so much a part of my childhood that it is hard to say whether I saw myself in Anne or whether I modeled myself after her...to this day I think of her whenever I wear my hair in braids, see a puffed-sleeve anything, and when I carry my vintage carpet bag about town. I love your writing, and your blog, thanks for seeing things so well and writing about them so prettily.

Oh Nicole, thank you for reminding me of Anne! I haven't thought of her in years but now I'm ready to root through my bookcase to find her!

Now I just need the tea and cake... : )

I just wanted to write and say what a wonderful post that was! I read all the anne books when I was younger (although I have to say I identified most of all with Emily) and I never knew L.M. Montgomery had published her journals... I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to read them (I suspect her of being a kindred spirit, somehow). Her books are one of those things that just center me- my password to my email account is a quote from one of her novels, just to remind me that under the world of email and work and school there is her world of magic and wonder and beauty :) Your post certainly reminded me of that as well. Thanks!
